Hana Kirisaki (桐崎 華, Kirisaki Hana) is the wife of Adelt Wogner Kirisaki and the mother of Chitoge Kirisaki. Hana is a world renowned business consultant who keeps much of the world's finances in balance. It is revealed that she was with Chitoge and Raku Ichijō 10 years ago for a couple days.

Appearance

Hana appears as a middle-aged woman with dark purple hair that is usually tied in a ponytail and reddish-brown eyes. Her outfit primarily is a fur coat wrapping around her neck, a jet black jacket, with what appears to be a white shirt underneath; a belt with a circular buckle holding a short skirt, stockings decorated by flowers, and zippered boots. Hana also sports dark sun-glasses from time to time and she is generally seen biting on a chocolate candy stick that is usually mistaken for a cigarette.

Hana's outfit is of a dark motif that permeates an intimidating aura, hence her reputation. However, her youthful and beautiful appearance makes Hana an appealing and attractive woman. An example would be is when Raku Ichijō mistakes Hana for being in her late 20s, despite being Chitoge's mother.

Personality

Hana is generally a fearsome young woman who isn't afraid to speak out her mind that she even earned a reputation among her workers for being very intimidating. A workaholic, she is very hardworking and tightly focused on her work as it was implied that she hasn't slept or taken any form of rest due to her job. Ever since her youth, Hana values individualism, feeling confident that she can accomplish anything by herself without any form of support. However, as a result to this, Hana became somewhat ignorant towards most matters that doesn't relate to her job or schedule. Nevertheless, Hana still retains her caring nature albeit to a lesser extent as shown when she constantly fails to give her gifts to Chitoge Kirisaki and has felt regret that she hasn't spent time as much compared to the past until Raku Ichijō's intervention. Furthermore, Hana never fails to reward people who is deemed worthy of her praise, but results to harsh punishments if otherwise.

Background

During her youth, Hana was a very hardworking and independent girl, committed on doing various jobs in order to support herself. Adelt once stated that Hana shouldered seventeen different part-time jobs as a student.

One day, while working as a pizza delivery woman, Hana received an order and delivered to a location situated in a two-way gang war that involved the Bee Hive faction. Hana apathetically wandered in the middle of the war zone between the two opposing factions and demanded to call out the person who ordered the pizza. Adelt took notice of Hana and was enamored by her. Thus Adelt went to Hana's side, knelt and took her hand for marriage. As a reply, Hana hit Adelt out of retaliation. Nonetheless, the pair became a couple for reasons unknown.

Soon the couple bore their only daughter named Chitoge Kirisaki. During her time as a mother for the young Chitoge, Hana was a caring woman who loved her daughter. One instance was when Hana bought the red hair ribbon for Chitoge, which she continues to use and treasure to the present. However, Hana soon turned into a workaholic due to her job that caused a gap between her and Chitoge. Due to her tight schedule, Hana can only meet her family annually (at the end of the year).

Story

On her debut appearance, Hana is welcomed to her annual family reunion with the usual VIP treatment from the Beehive's subordinates. Raku, who was invited to the visit, on a whim by Chitoge, sees that what Chitoge said about her mother passes off - Hana, having hugged her husband after reuniting with him, immediately makes him follow up on a task that was last assigned to him "two months and 15 days ago", or "she'll gouge his eyes out". Raku also sees how Hana prioritizes her work, such that she only has "two hours and 36 minutes" with her family even while in Japan. When Hana's secretary passes out during the reunion event, she immediately designates Raku with the secretary position, and has him start in his new role just the following day, with the reward of an overnight stay at an exclusive hotel suite for him and Chitoge on Christmas Eve if he impresses in the role.

Raku works the equivalent of a 72-hour week during his short time in the position. He even does more work on top, in order to clear schedules for Hana so that she can have Christmas Eve off. However, Hana merely fills up the Christmas Eve schedule with more client appointments. Although she is kind enough to compensate Raku for the work he's done, on top of the reward promised earlier, Raku rejects both, claiming he has instead won the authority to instruct Hana to see her daughter. Raku appears to be enraged at Hana's nonchalant attitude towards matters unrelated to work, only for Hana to pull out Christmas presents for Chitoge that she never got to deliver. On top of that, Hana has to catch a chartered flight back to the United States.

With only three hours before the flight takes off, Raku proposes to have Hana go to the hotel she booked, while he escorts Chitoge there. However, snow falls outside, causing traffic to build up and delay Raku's escort mission, while at the same time, Hana's flight is moved forward in order to escape the heavy snowfall. Raku and Chitoge arrive at the airport too late and see Hana's flight already taking off. Raku doesn't give up; he calls Hana, telling her to get the plane to circle back to land, and even passes his phone to Chitoge so that Hana can hear her daughter. Chitoge cries out "Mommy!" - this manages to persuade Hana to return to the airport. She shares a tearful reunion with her daughter on the tarmac. Raku then offers to deal with the fallout from the abandoned flight, while Hana and Chitoge spend the night together at the hotel.

There, Hana confirms to Chitoge that Raku was indeed the boy Chitoge had a good time playing with, ten years ago. Hana also knew that Chitoge started wearing a ribbon because it was inspired by the story in the picture book that she used to read, and Raku himself said that a ribbon would look good on Chitoge. On Christmas Day, Raku and Chitoge see Hana off at the airport. There, Hana tells Raku in secret that she knew he was only pretending to date Chitoge, but suspects that he might one day develop feelings for Chitoge. Hana also tells Raku that she doesn't recognize his locket. Only when her flight departs, does Hana remember seeing the locket in the picture book Chitoge used to read.

More than 100 chapters later in Magical, while Chitoge is in her second year of high school, Hana is said to have returned to Japan for her usual annual visit. Chitoge is informed about it by text, and hurriedly leaves Raku alone. Hana does not make another in-person appearance until Whereabouts, which reveals that Chitoge ran away to her mother at her New York City branch office - Hana immediately assigns her daughter with the secretary role. Chitoge impresses in that role within a week, and is referred to one of her mother's associates, who offers a paid role. On the day Raku and Kosaki visit to track down Chitoge, Hana allows her to take leave, having known for a while (through Adelt) that they would be coming over. Once Chitoge escapes them and returns to Hana's office, she takes her key out - Hana recognizes it from the picture book Chitoge used to read, saying that it was written by Raku's mother. On Chitoge's request, Hana thus contacts Raku's mother to let her know that Chitoge would be visiting. Hana then hears from Raku's mother after Chitoge's visit, and informs Raku personally regarding where Chitoge would be going next.

Abilities

  • Multilingualism: It was noted by Raku Ichijō that Hana knows how to speak different languages, as shown on the teleconference she's conducting.
  • Intimidating Personality: Hana is super intimidating (as said by Chitoge Kirisaki) that can even intimidate Adelt and Chitoge. This caused others to respect and/or fear her.
  • Amazing Stamina: Hana was shown to have amazing stamina, and according to Raku, he never saw her rest or sleep, and this was probably because of the chocolate stick in her mouth.

Etymology

  • The name Hana means "flower, petal" (華).
  • Hana's surname Kirisaki means "paulownia" (桐) (kiri) and "cape, peninsula" (崎) (saki).

Trivia
