Paula McCoy (ポーラ・マッコイ Pōra Makkoi) is a former colleague of Seishirō Tsugumi during her time as an operative for the Bee Hive Gang at the United States. Initially introducing herself as a self-proclaimed rival of Seishirō, she later enrolled in the same school as Seishirō and became part of a class alongside Suzu Ayakaji (aka Fuu) and Haru Onodera.

Paula goes by the alias "White Fang" during her service as a hit woman for the Bee Hive faction but has claimed to be called other numerous names.

Background[]

During her service for the Bee Hive Gang in the US, Paula was once a skilled hit woman with unmatched skills, until she was out-skilled by fellow Bee Hive hit-girl named Seishirō Tsugumi. When the two hit-girls were introduced, Tsugumi - whom Paula first mistook for a boy - made a remark of Paula's premature breast size after mistaking her for a boy. This would then drive Paula to surpass Tsugumi as the duo were constantly partnered for partaking in missions for the benefit of the Bee Hive faction.

Nonetheless, Paula continues to genuinely admire Tsugumi for her work ethic and skills. After Tsugumi's sudden relocation to Japan, a competent Paula soon pursued after Tsugumi and appeared before her a year later after their last meeting.

Appearance[]

Paula's most distinguishing feature is her snow white bob-cut hair while wearing a pink headband with three ribbons attached on either side alongside a cardinal red scarf that is wrapped around her neck and yellow eyes.

When introduced, Paula wore a white, long-sleeved long coat with a white shirt underneath and long dark pants where multiple pockets with straps of munitions are attached. Underside her long coat is where she keeps numerous weapons.

By the time she enrolled in Bonyari High School, Paula started donning the school's uniform with the scarf still wrapped around her neck. [3]

Personality[]

For her young age, Paula acts cool-minded and composed. However, when this facade breaks down, Paula is revealed to be childish in some aspects. A notable example is her being picky with the food she eats and acting spoiled or stubborn when told, or otherwise forced, to do something that opposes her character. Paula also dislikes studying, as she finds them a waste of her time. Hence, she usually receives low scores in tests, even having zero points. Paula is also easily irritable and tends to cry as shown from time to time.

Being raised as a hit-girl by the Beehive Gang, Paula is well-disciplined yet aggressive when provoked. Paula is not above acting arrogant towards others in showing off her skills as a hit woman but instead tries to improve in the area where she's lacking. Paula is also very considerate and helpful as she constantly tries to assist Seishirō Tsugumi in her pursuit of love with Raku Ichijō, despite the former's protest. This is further explained by her tendency to interfere with Tsugumi's personal life, noticing that Tsugumi has feelings for Raku, and trying to get her to admit it to him. Paula is also quite competitive and acts persistently in trying to achieve her goals, but this is only shown in the case of Tsugumi due to having some sort of inferiority complex in regards to her skills and "womanly" figure.

Later on, Paula is shown to be quite unsociable and unfriendly as she prefers to be alone and rejects friendly invitations from her classmates, notably Haru Onodera. However, it is questionable whether she acts by nature or her tendency to solely focus on improving her skills as a hit woman and the accomplishment of her assigned tasks. As news of the Beehive pulling out of Japan meant that Paula would be transferring out after less than six months, Paula initially looked forward to leaving but Haru approaches and hugs Paula, then begins to cry. This makes Paula cry as well. Paula eventually does stay in Japan and even enrols for a second year at Bonyari High, though with no evident improvements to her sociability.

It is later revealed that Paula became a scientist after moving back to the United States, although whether she dropped out of Bonyari High is never mentioned. According to Fuu, Paula found all her male colleagues "dull".

Story[]

First Year Arc[]

Paula first appears overlooking a city in Japan, making a remark of its peacefulness while stating her intentions of meeting Seishirō Tsugumi, whom she addresses as "Black Tiger". She later heads to the school Raku Ichijō and the gang attends. As she intends to shoot Raku, he was then immediately saved by Tsugumi in the nick of time. Paula and Tsugumi then clash until they are abruptly interrupted by Raku.

Tsugumi takes Raku to her rented apartment to treat his wounds, and also brings Paula along as well. Out of jealousy of Tsugumi ever since they were first assigned missions together, Paula prepares to fight again but is distracted by food. Noticing Tsugumi's closeness towards Raku, Paula decides on the terms of the challenge, setting a one-hour time limit to determine who "steals a kiss from Raku's lips" first. Tsugumi refuses, but was reminded that she accepted the challenge before knowing its terms. Paula goes ahead with her attempt to kiss Raku, only to be shot at by Tsugumi; Paula dodges, hiding behind Raku several times. As a result, Raku runs outside and tries to dodge their gunfire. Though Tsugumi is first to Raku, she finds herself unable to kiss Raku, instead throwing him against the walls of the buildings. This allows Paula to distract Tsugumi with a smokescreen and take Raku away. Paula brings Raku to a place where he is tied up in order to be kissed. Raku refuses to kiss Paula, saying that he wants his first kiss to be memorable. He also says that Paula doesn't care about the kiss and only wants to one-up Tsugumi to earn her recognition. Just then, Tsugumi arrives where Raku and Paula are, and kicks down the concrete pillar that Raku was tied to, forcing Paula to concede. Tsugumi nevertheless hugs Paula, saying that she has become stronger. This moves Paula to tears, because Tsugumi had left Paula suddenly while she was on a mission. Paula leaves the country afterwards, but not before asking Tsugumi if she's okay with Raku being their mistress' lover.

Second Year Arc[]

Paula enrols in Bonyari High School, being put in the same class as Haru Onodera and Suzu Ayakaji, while living with Tsugumi at her apartment. It is later revealed that Paula's enrolment constitutes the vacation days that she had saved up. However, she doesn't reveal to Tsugumi her reason for enrolment until afterwards - she intends to bring Tsugumi closer to Raku. She first traps Tsugumi and Raku in the P.E. storeroom, then on a later date, has Tsugumi and Raku meet her at a spot that can only be reached by crossing a narrow bridge. However, during the crossing attempt, Tsugumi passes out with a fever, and Paula notices. She panics over Tsugumi's condition and even cries, as noticed by Raku.

Paula is seen on only one further Beehive mission after enrolling in school. She was to inflitrate a cruise ship leaving Japan as part of a male-female couple, with Tsugumi playing the male role. However, a stomach upset prevents her from fulfilling the mission, forcing Tsugumi to draft Raku in as a replacement. Nevertheless, Paula recovers from her stomach bug in time to aid Tsugumi and Raku from the harbor, by firing a shot from a cannon.

Paula also competes in the beauty pageant at the Bonyari High cultural festival, though she doesn't progress past the first round due to not giving her name after taking the stage.

Abilities[]
